IAHSA: The Power of Community IAHSA Home

The strength of IAHSA lies in its membership – Care Providers as well as Associate Members. Through IAHSA’s governance structure, members can actively participate in determining the goals, programs, and activities of IAHSA. Input from committee members is crucial in the formation of policy and direction for the Association, including its ability to provide timely, cost-effective, and high quality service to its members. IAHSA’s committees are a vital link between the Board of Directors, staff and membership. As such, they form the backbone of the Association and the work that it does.

“I am proud to be associated with IAHSA. It is an
organization that strives to meet the needs of its members and tries to do this is a fair and honest
manner. One of the best things that I did was join a committee. Hopefully others from our facility will do
so also.”

Board of Directors

Professional Development Committee
The Professional Development Committee is a combination of the Education and Quality First Committees. The Professional Development Committee’s focus is to assist members to successfully meet the future of aging services, expectations of consumers, continually improve the quality of care provided, and develop future leaders of long-term care. The basis of this committee’s work will be the Quality First Ten Elements of Quality.
Financial Resources Committee
The Financial Resources Committee, which meets four times a year, is responsible for recommending the annual association budget to the board of directors. The budget is then presented to the membership for approval at the annual meeting. The treasurer chairs the Financial Resources Committee and is responsible for the safekeeping of funds and securities of IAHSA. The committee also directs the group purchasing program, which brings in revenue that allows IAHSA to maintain low costs for members to attend educational events and conferences.

Member Services Committee -
Currently not doing this committee for 2010.
IAHSA’s Membership Commitee and Awards Committee have joined forces and formed the Member Services Committee. The committee is charged with seeking new members and helping current members realize the benefits IAHSA membership has to offer. The committee is responsible for developing and implementing programs to assure membership growth through recruitment, member satisfaction and retention, and maximum active participation and effectiveness within IAHSA. The committee promotes the value of IAHSA membership by determining member needs, measuring satisfaction levels, and coordinating marketing and promotion efforts.

Public Policy Committee The Public Policy Committee is responsible for the development and implementation of legislative and regulatory priorities and policy recommendations to the IAHSA Board of Directors. This hard working committee meets every other Friday at noon (participation can be in person or by conference call) during the Legislative Session. It meets monthly during non-session times. It also works with staff on events such as the Legislative Candidate Forums in the fall and Legislative Day in February. If you enjoy staying on top of “what’s going on,” then this committee is for you.
Nominating Committee
IAHSA's Nominating Committee nominates IAHSA members for election to IAHSA Board of Directors and AAHSA House of Delegates.
Awards Committee

The Awards Committee conducts the nomination process and selects recipients of the annual IAHSA awards and Quality First recognition.  ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Bylaws Committee
IAHSA's Bylaws Committee meets as needed to propose necessary bylaw changes.

Finance Cabinet
The Finance Cabinet is charged with initiating studies, examining and evaluating Medicaid and Medicare funding, and making proposal or policy recommendations to the Public Policy Committee. The Cabinet provides leadership and coordination for long-range planning and assesses needs to funding the continuum of care. Cabinet members have worked together to help create a system for funding long-term care, assisted living, adult day, and the full continuum of care. Funding decisions are made quickly during the legislative session, so the cabinet is “on call” in order to make proposal and policy recommendations. span>
Survey & Certification Cabinet
The Survey and Certification Cabinet provides leadership and coordination for nursing facility survey and certification. The Cabinet meets monthly to review the surveys (annual, complaint, self- report and revisits) and report on any trends. The Cabinet also initiates studies, examines and evaluates nursing facility survey issues and concerns, and makes proposal or policy recommendations to the Public Policy Committee.
