The Meth-Wick Community is THRILLED to be hosting the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative!! Mark your calendars for
The Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI) is a grassroots, volunteer effort to raise awareness and fund research through art. All profits from AAQI are donated to Alzheimer's research. Ami Simms of Michigan founded the AAQI in January 2006 because her mother has Alzheimer's disease. She put out an invitation to other professional and hobby quilters to express their experiences with Alzheimer’s disease, and received a remarkable response.
AAQI currently administers a nationwide quilt exhibit called "Alzheimer's: Forgetting Piece By Piece." It contains 52 quilts each interpreting Alzheimer's in some way, and travels the country. So far, an estimated 180,000 people have had the opportunity to see this exhibit, including some of The Meth-Wick Community’s staff while at a conference in Florida.
We hope you will join us, and pass on the word to everyone you can think of for this wonderful event. This is the first and only scheduled stop for this exhibit in Iowa, so it really is a fantastic opportunity to see it in person! If you would like to know more about AAQI, please visit their website at www.alzquilts.org. If you are interested in volunteering for this event, or want more information about its time at Meth-Wick, please contact Eryn at ecronbaugh@methwick.org or 319-363-2404 ext. 620. There is no admission charge for this event.
